COMPOSING WATERCOLORS

Saturday, July 25, full day 10:00 to 4:00

(Space is limited. If there's a lot of interest, I will run the workshop again on Sunday, July 26. If you could only come on Sunday, please email me.)

Workshop will be held at my house, 14 Village Road, Surry, NH, just north of Keene.

$120 includes some materials, drinks, snacks, and lunch

FRAMEWORKS
There are many ways of setting up everything in a painting — the rule of thirds, diagonals, rabatment, steelyard, cross, S-curve, balance, on and on. Understanding of these frameworks can be a big help as we start to compose a painting. Our knowledge of shape, color, value, edges, and balance support us further.

OUR GOAL will be to understand more about the how and why of these concepts. Then we can creatively use, manipulate, or even toss them out to create paintings to look the way we want them to. After all, we are the ones who must be satisfied with our design regardless of these guides.

EXPLORE
We'll push the possibilities and manipulate the potentials of our subject through thumbnails, more developed studies, and paintings. We'll focus on the design elements of line, shape, form, color, value, texture, and space.

BRING your own usual watercolor supplies — paints (especially transparent colors), brushes, water containers, etc. Canson XL watercolor paper will be available for your experiments and paintings. You may want to bring nicer paper for a more finished piece.
Bring a subject or two that you'd like to paint. You're welcome to use anything in my cupboard of assorted of still life objects and flowers from the garden.

PROVIDED Many tools and materials will be available for your use. Paper for explorations and experiments will be provided. There will also be tea, morning nibbles, and a simple lunch.
